Hello Everyone!

Can you guess where I've just returned from?
If you guessed ALASKA, you guessed right!

I still can't believe I was there, and now all I can say is...I'm sorry I didn't take the trip sooner. Yes, it's not cheap. Yes, it's a long, long plane ride from The Sunshine State. And yes, it was a lot colder than this Florida native is used to. But it's also a thrilling, once in a lifetime experience that shouldn't be missed.

The scenery is spectacular. Every turn in the road brings some new amazing sight. Here's a picture I took of a lake in Turnagain Pass near Seward--icy-blue, frozen solid. It seemed to go for miles and miles.

I've taken many, many vacations to wilderness areas and hoped to see some wildlife. Sometimes, I don't even spot a rabbit! But that's NOT the case in Alaska. You see so much wildlife in their own environment that you simply can't absorb it all. I saw countless otters, bald eagles, seals, sea lions and more birds than can be imagined. Mountain goats and sheep, two bears swinging back and forth in a tree, reindeer and even a pod of Orca whales.

The whales were too quick for my camera, but these elk weren't camera-shy at all.

The biggest thrill for me was coming face-to-face with not one, but TWO moose out in the woods. I could hardly contain my excitement, but neither one of them seemed a bit impressed or afraid of me.

Unable to resist the usual tourist stops, my niece Holly and I took the glacier tour of Prince William Sound. We were lucky enough to have one of the glaciers actually "calve" right in front of us. Some of you probably know that "calving" is what they call it when the glacier drops a mass of snow and ice. It cracks and roars and then plunges into the water, which looks like the set of the movie "Titanic" with so many icebergs bobbing around in the Sound. I was awed by the sheer power of it, but unfortunately, I didn't get a picture. It happened so fast, and I was so stunned, I couldn't get a shot in time.

I could go on and on about how wonderful this trip was, but I'd never be able to do it justice. I can only say this to you--if you ever get the chance to go to Alaska, DO IT! You won't regret a single minute.

If you have been to Alaska and would like to share your experiences, please don't hesitate to email me directly. I'd love to hear from you. Now, about my writing...

I'm afraid there's no news at all about the sequel to THE MISSING MOM. Please keep your fingers crossed that it's finally accepted.

I would love to make enough money this year to pay for another vacation...back to Alaska, of course!

Until next time,

Ann, wishing you all the best!
